Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often should the quick coupler be serviced?
The quick coupler should be maintained in accordance with the operating instructions. This means for most applications: Lubricate and check daily.

  • What safety mechanisms are integrated in MARTIN quick couplers?
A double-acting hydraulic cylinder that ensures backlash-free closure. A shut-off pressure valve that prevents the quick coupler from opening in the event of a pressure drop or failure. The MARTIN catching shoe (catching hook), which statically and permanently prevents attachments from falling. To monitor the locking status, all hydraulic MARTIN quick couplers have a visual check that always works without springs or mechanisms.

  • Is a hydraulic quick coupler more economical than a mechanical one?
Yes! One example: You change your tools 10 times a day and need about 3 minutes per change with the mechanical changer and 1 minute with the hydraulic quick coupler. You need 30 minutes a day with a mechanical quick coupler and 10 minutes with a hydraulic one. So you save time and are more efficient in handling your construction sites.

  • What hydraulic pressure settings should the machine have for safe operation?
When closing the quick coupler, a maximum pressure of 50 bar is specified and when opening, the pressure must not exceed 200 bar (M03) or 240 bar (M10, M18, M20).

  • Is it worth investing in a tiltrotator for smaller excavators?
This depends entirely on your requirements and the equipment of your machine. Expensive conversions minimize profitability, which means you always need a well-equipped carrier machine. If your excavator needs to be a real all-rounder, with applications such as: Excavation work, demanding terrain modeling, use on narrow construction sites that do not always allow relocation, or difficult sewer work, then a tiltrotator also makes sense on smaller excavators.

  • Is it worth investing in a tiltrotator for medium-sized excavators?
Yes, especially for machines that have the appropriate equipment. Mobile excavators are popular carrier machines for tiltrotators because they already offer great flexibility and the tiltrotator complements this feature even further. This increases the efficiency and profitability of the machine, from which you benefit. Crawler excavators are also suitable for tiltrotators if there are corresponding requirements for the machine.

  • Is it worth investing in a tiltrotator for larger excavators?
If the tiltrotator is also used efficiently, it makes perfect sense. However, if the machine is to be used mainly for excavation or demolition work, the tiltrotator is not suitable due to its weight.

  • What factors influence the service life of a tiltrotator?
Maintenance and use probably have the greatest influence. Long periods of hammering or rough tearing should be avoided in the interests of longevity.
